Sun Oct 03 2021 Millstone Quarries hike by Steve and Heather Bailey

The weather forecast was for 50% chance of rain, which turned out to be the percentage of people who actually came to the hike compared to those who signed up. We had 9 hikers out of 17 who had thought they might come. It was raining on the way to the trailhead, and drizzling in the parking lot, but miraculously it stopped just before we started hiking and didn't rain for the three hours or so of hiking. We hiked in a loop around the Rock of Ages quarry, starting from the old (now abandoned) Rock of Ages Visitor Center on Graniteville Road in Graniteville, Barre Town. The foliage was not at its peak, but we saw lots of beautiful scenery. We had to pass through a part of the active quarry on our loop, so it was good that it was Sunday and no one was working there. See photo for our route.
