Trip Reports

Saturday February 29 2020 Peacham Bog Ski Loop by Nancy Schulz

Given that it rained in Montpelier two days earlier, we three skiers were delighted with the outstanding conditions in Groton State Forest. Temps were in the 20s with little to no wind. There was a firm base with fresh powder on top. From the start at Log Pile Lane, we skied a portion of Coldwater Brook Road, then took the Nordic Trail up and across Peacham Bog. From there, we skied some of Martin's Pond Road before returning on the Peacham Bog Loop hiking trail for a total distance of 9.2 miles. Throughout the time we were skiing, we encountered only one other person, a solo snowshoer on the Bog. It was wonderful to be in the woods for five hours and not hear a snowmobile, a car, or a plane.
