Saturday October 26 2019 Belvidere Mountain Hike by Nancy SchulzOur congenial group of five hikers set out from the trailhead at Tillotson Road a little before 10:00 am to do the Belvidere Mountain loop. Throughout the day, we had a mix of clouds and sun, no wind, and temps in the 40s. The leaves, for the most part, were down and were masking much of the standing water and mud that were on the trails. We had to choose our steps carefully, to avoid wet roots and loose rocks as well as the mud and water. There were stream crossings, too, mostly in the last third of the loop. Our hiking poles came in handy! Our route took us on the Frank Post Trail to Tillotson Camp (where we met GMC maintainer Walter Pomeroy) and then to the Long Trail and the summit of Belvidere. The views from the base of the fire tower were extensive and they grew even more so when we climbed to the top. We took the Forester's Trail down the mountain, arriving back at the car at 5:00 pm.
