YAC Hike to Taylor Lodge and the Clara Bow Trail
Sunday September 16, 2012
We broke out our hats and mitts for the first time this fall as the morning sun sparkled on the waters of Lake Mansfield and a cool breeze wrapped around us as we covered the rules of the trail in the parking lot. The kids quickly led us along the trail as it paralleled the lake and then started to slowly climb through the forest. We stopped for a couple snacks and waited for everyone to catch up and then climbed past the waterfall and beaver ponds. The kids thoroughly inspected Taylor Lodge and tested all the sleeping platforms. As we explored the day warmed and the sun shone brightly across the valley below. We hiked up to the lookout and learned about the fire from a fireman who had hiked out to put it out. Then we backtracked to explore the Clara Bow Trail. The kids had a great time scrambling over the boulders, climbing down the ladder into the "cave," and then exploring the glade beyond. Energized by lunch on the porch of Taylor Lodge, we descended from the Trail back into the world below.
