Shelburne Farms hike

If you ever want to get out of the green tunnel, otherwise known as the Long Trail, Shelburne Farms is a good alternative. (From May to October, there is a charge; the rest of the year it is free.) The Webb estate on Lake Champlain has miles of trails, mostly in the open, that circle fields, gardens, and the impressive barns and manor house-all on the National Register of Historic Places. From Lone Tree Hill you have a good view of the lake and the Adirondacks. We were blessed with a warm day for November, and could sit on the stone wall by the water and really enjoy our lunch. All had fun admiring the goats, llamas, and many exotic chickens at the Farm Barn: a brown hen took a special liking to Ken, wanting to follow him. Many in our group had not walked these trails before.
