Long Trail - Rte 242 to Rte 105

The hike was advertised to meet at Montpelier at 7:30, so I told the two ladies from Burlington to meet me at the Jay Country Store at 8:30. My estimate of driving time fell short; it was almost 9:00 when I got there. We spotted my car on Rte 105 and considered our options. With the forecast of afternoon thundershowers, we decided to abbreviate the hike by taking the Jay Peak tram up to the summit. The first tram started at 10:00 am and we started walking (downhill, sometimes steeply) at 10:20. We reached Laura Woodward shelter after an hour, had lunch on Doll Peak, and reached the car about 4:00. We encountered two southbound parties: a group of one and a group of three. We encountered wildlife: a small garter snake, a very small frog, and a large bug. We got out before rain hit. In fact, I didn't hit rain until an hour later.
