Annual trail work in Montpelier parks Another productive day in the North Branch park! Twelve adults, counting parks director Geoff Beyer and his Americorps assistant, and four young girls worked hard from 9:00 A.M. till mid-afternoon -- when steady rain made us quit. We pulled honeysuckle, covered worn trailbed with newly dug soil, improved waterbars, picked up debris, and raked leaves. We even created a future vernal pool for students of nature. The young girls were amazing, tireless workers. The bleachers at the baseball stadium proved a convenient place to sit during lunch break. I believe that this annual work contribution to the city is a good way to create good will and make the Montpelier Section visible. And it is a good warm-up for own work on the Long Trail.
