Sunday February 24, 2002 Cross-country Ski the trails in Duxbury Approximately 3 Y2 Leader: Nancy Schulz The continuing lack of fresh snowfall dampened interest in this trip. I received three phone calls in advance from individuals who wanted to know if the trip was happening. I explained that conditions in the woods were unfavorable for skiing and that I planned to offer a walk on trails instead. Apparently, folks were not keen on this alternative. Only Anne Ferguson was interested in accompanying me. We brought ski poles to provide some security on a 4 1/2 hour circuit of Hubbard and North Branch Parks. We didn't need snowshoes as the trails were well packed but the poles came in handy -- especially in Hubbard Park where some sections of trail were particularly slick. All in all, we had a great afternoon. Temperatures were quite comfortable and there was no wind. Sunny skies gave way to clouds and then a golden horizon with mackerel patterns above as we descended into downtown Montpelier. Participants Nancy Schulz Anne Ferguson
