 From Pond to Peak - Lake Mansfield Trout Club to Mt Mansfield

Much to my surprise, this hike attracted only five participants.  It was the first sunny day after 8 days of overcast and rain, and it promised great "leaf peeping" opportunities, so I expected a good size crowd.  Perhaps the listed distance of 14 miles turned people off.

In addition to the 6 of us, there were 3 dogs. We proceeded along the well marked trail over mud and piles of wet leaves.  After 3 hours, the group arrived at Butler Lodge for a leisurely lunch.  After lunch (about 1:45) three hikers (and their dogs) decided to return.  The remaining three hikers went on to the Forehead for the most impressive views of the day.  We three completed the day at about 6:15 for a total distance of about 13 miles.
