Sun Sep 28 2025 Millstone Quarries hike by Steve and Heather Bailey

We had a great turnout for this hike, 17 people in total. We had beautiful sunny weather with the temperature in the high 70’s. We parked near the old Rock of Ages visitor center on Graniteville Road in Barre. We hiked around the Rock of Ages quarry, stopping often to take pictures. We went as far as the Pirie Quarry, which is the last active quarry in the area. Fortunately it was Sunday and the granite crushing machine was not in operation. It is very loud! Our last stop was lunch on a rocky flat area surrounded on three sides by the Rock of Ages quarry.
