Sun Apr 27 2025 Virginia Stranahan Town Forest by Phyllis Rubenstein

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, 5 of us hiked 4.15 miles in Stranahan Town Forest in Marshfield, stopping frequently to identify more than a dozen spring wild flowers, including red trillium, yellow trout lily, wild ginger, Dutchmen’s breeches, sharp-lobed hepatica, cut-leaf toothwort, and Carolina spring beauty. Most of the flowers were just starting to flower or were budding. We also saw old stone walls and stone cellars, a beaver pond, a waterfall and the site of an old grist mill. The weather was cool, breezy, and overcast. We were sprinkled on a few times but it didn’t rain until we were back in the car. Perfect timing!
