Sat Nov 15 2025 Road Walk south of Berlin Pond by Phyllis Rubenstein

On Saturday, November 15, 2015, 3 of us walked a 5.1 or 5.4 mile loop (depending on which device you follow), starting at the inlet to Berlin Pond on Mirror Lake Road, south of the pond. Some of the walk was on an unmaintained road, which provided a feeling of being in the woods. We stopped to look at the gravestones at Loomis Cemetery, most of which dated back to the 19th century and some of which were unmarked. We saw stick season sights of Christmas and wood ferns, sterile fronds of ostrich and sensitive ferns, mosses, lichens, fungi, and more. We also noticed tree trunks where yellow-bellied sapsackers had bored their distinctive holes. We enjoyed overcast to partially sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-thirties. Sandwiched between damp and rainy days, it was a great time to get outdoors!
