Executive Committee Meeting September 27, 2023
GREEN MOUNTAIN CLUB, MONTPELIER SECTION
Minutes of the Executive Committee
September 27, 2023
The meeting, held at the home of Scott Richardson, 67 Bliss Road, Montpelier, was called to order at 6 pm by President Steve Bailey. In addition to Steve Bailey, present were Suzi Swanson, Morgan Irons, Heather Bailey, Andrew Nuquist, Heidi Kunkel, Scott Richardson, and Charlene Bohl.
Minutes from the July 27, 2023 Meeting. The Minutes were approved with the removal of the portion stating that Heather Bailey was going to select a gift for Nancy Jordan.
Gift for Nancy Jordan. The section would like to send a gift to Nancy Jordan in appreciation of her many (30+?) years of preparing Trail Talk. Morgan will get in contact with her daughter for suggestions. Steve will research and prepare a Certificate of Appreciation.
Trail Talk. Morgan needs material for the next issue by October 30, 2023. She is looking for new voices.
Cohos Trail Presentation. Scott Richardson will talk about his recent trip on the Cohos Trail on November 8, 2023 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Wood Art Gallery, Montpelier. While initial contact has been made with the Wood, Suzi will check and/or make the registration.
Appalachian Trail Presentation. Phyllis Rubenstein will (hopefully) present about her recent thru hike of the Appalachian Trail which is currently going on. It will probably be on a Wednesday in January 2024, also at the Wood Aet Gallery.
Outings/Events. Suzi, with the assistance of Scott, will prepare a survey to better determine what individuals want from the section in terms of outings. The survey will be prepared on Google Forms with responses emailed to gmcmontpelier@gmc.com. Each member of the executive committee will contribute questions(s) to be used in the survey. The survey will ask individuals if they would be interested in being a leader, or perhaps a co-leader. In addition to the usual outings, there were suggestions of Ladies Only events, “forest bathing,” and trail running. There was discussion of a possible $50 gift card to one of the individuals taking the survey.
More leaders are needed for outings. One suggestion is for new leaders to co-lead an event with a more experiences leader.
There was discussion of the pros and cons of using the Burlington Meet-Up Group. While the use of a Meet-Up group makes it easier for individuals to sign up, it gives less information to the leader.
Treasurer’s Report. Approved as written.
Membership Report. The individual at Main Club handling membership is on leave and nothing will be available until the next meeting. Heather believes that the numbers are stable.
Trails and Shelters. The work hikes have been scheduled. Heidi will be ordering an electric chainsaw with two batteries. She will also order trucker hats with the Montpelier Section logo; these will be given out to individuals on the work hikes. Steve will be looking into obtaining business cards to be given out on work hikes.
Next EC Meeting will be Tuesday January 16, 2024 at 6 pm at Suzi Swanson’s house.
Respectfully submitted,
Charlene Bohl, Secretary
