Executive Committee meeting of 31 December 1969

Charlene Bohl called the executive committee to order at 6:45 at the Hertz home in Montpelier.

Officers present: Charlene Bohl (president); Bob Lorenz (treasurer); Mike Wetherell (director); Nancy Jordan (Trail Talk editor); Kevin Ryan (publicity coordinator); Ken Hertz (membership coordinator); John Buddington (webmaster); and Kathryn Gohl (secretary)

Officers absent: Paul DeLuca (vice president); Eric Seidel (trails and shelters coordinator)

Members present: Fred Jordan, Reidun Nuquist, and Andrew Nuquist

I. OLD BUSINESS

A. The minutes of the June 6 and September 11, 2012, meetings were approved.

B. Treasurer’s report. Bob reported that income and contributions are down but he has noticed that more money tends to come in the early part of the year. He will send the $4,000 bridge check to the main club after February because if we wait until then, there is a donor who will match the contribution.

C. Reports of the officers.

1. Membership coordinator. Ken reported that membership was down from its peak but still a healthy number, with 367 memberships and 556 voting members. The number has stayed above 300 and went up dramatically when we solicited at-large members last year.

Ken also suggested that items 3 and 5 in his job description, which are no longer relevant, be deleted. MOTION: to make the change as suggested by Ken; MOTION CARRIED on a voice vote. Nancy will make the change in the official copy; Ken will put the change onto the website.

2. Trail Talk editor. (I don’t believe Nancy was asked for a report.)

3. Webmaster. John reported that not much has happened with the website, and we don’t have any big plans. There will likely be more meetings of website committee (see D below).

4. Publicity coordinator. Kevin thanked everyone for putting up Taylor series posters.

5. Director. Mike called everyone’s attention to his report published in the recent issue of Trail Talk.

II. NEW BUSINESS

A. Taylor series. Various arrangements for the Taylor series were made and confirmed. John has agreed to introduce the speaker.

B. Winooski Crossing update. Fred said there wasn’t much to report at the moment.

C. Bolton lodge. The lodge, which is an interesting building, is about a half mile off the Bolton access road. Plans are still vague for its use and upgrade but will probably involve some sort of package deal regarding the right of way. Not much will happen until the package gets put together.

D. Website committee. John reported that the website committee had made the decision that the website would not be indexed on Google. Charlene said she would like to see more general discussion, so John explained the idea of indexing. He also touched on use of the website for archiving and as a section tool rather than for promotional purposes. Ken moved that the “no robots” clause be stricken from the website to allow full indexing of the website. Members wondered if we know enough to vote on it and wanted to explore the issue more. It was suggested that we table the issue for now; Charlene said she wanted to talk with people at the main club about their site. Ken’s motion failed for lack of a second.

E. Details of and possibilities for the annual meeting were discussed. (It has since been scheduled for April 12, 2013, at Bethany United Church.)

F. Nominating committee. Andrew Nuquist, George Longenecker, and Eric Seidel were put forth as members of this year’s nominating committee. The jobs of secretary and trails and shelters coordinator needed to be filled. (Other vacancies have since come to light.)

G. Reidun noted that Onion River Sports doesn’t have GMC brochures or Trail Talk, and wouldn’t it be good to have them in the racks at the front of the store? Charlene volunteered to take some in next time she went.

H. Reidun also brought up the topic of the future of the membership/planning meeting and asked that the topic be added to the next quarter’s agenda.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, at 6:30, at the home of Ken Hertz. Pizza is involved, for which you may make a contribution.

Drafted March 27, 2013

Respectfully submitted, Kathryn Gohl, secretary
