MONTPELIER SECTION
Executive Committee Minutes
June 3, 2020
Present: Dana Lawrence, president; Ken Hertz, vice president; Alan Paschell, trails and shelters coordinator; John Buddington, webmaster; George Longenecker, GMC director; Steve Bailey, treasurer; Heather Bailey, membership coordinator; Nancy Jordan, Trail Talk editor; Andrew Nuquist, alternate GMC director; Kathryn Gohl, secretary.
Dana called the meeting to order about 7:15 p.m. via Zoom.
The minutes of the April 16, 2020, meeting were approved as written.
Dana announced that Phyllis Rubenstein had been appointed a member of the main club’s committee on how to proceed with outings during the pandemic. The committee would help draft specific policies and provide feedback to the main club and sections.
As of this Executive Committee meeting, all outings had been cancelled, including trail work. Alan has organized some trail work, and a few people have gone out on their own to accomplish what they can. Indeed, Alan thought that these few workers got as much done as might have been accomplished with more people. Alan and Morgan did much of it, and Heather and Steve worked as well. Alan thought perhaps a fall trail work event would be useful but that in fact we had enough core people to take care of water bars, raking, and other fall activities. Andrew suggested that some people might be on call to do specific work. Alan also reminded the committee that he will be retiring as trails and shelters coordinator after autumn [that is, his term will be up].
Dana hoped that by next spring things will have improved and trail work by groups will be allowed, but we needed to hear from the main club about that possibility. By the next Trail Talk deadline we should have a better idea about what can be scheduled.
Everyone was reminded of the main club’s upcoming annual meeting and encouraged to sign up for the online edition.
George reported that the main club has curtailed various work programs on the trails but that all regular employees are still working. He hopes to have more information after the upcoming directors’ meeting.
Steve suggested that if there are no outings, then Trail Talk may not need a regular deadline. And he reported that without section meetings and lectures, there have been few expenses.
Nancy requested that we all think of topics for Trail Talk in case there were no outings.
The next Executive Committee meeting was scheduled for August 12, by which time more restrictions may have been lifted.
No specific votes or decisions were taken at the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.
Respectfully submitted, Kathryn Gohl, secretary
