Executive Committee Meeting April 20, 2022
Meeting
Minutes of April 20 Exec Committee meeting
The meeting was held via Zoom.
1. Minutes of Jan 5, 2022 meeting were approved.
Attendance: John Buddington, Ken Hertz, Michele Cota, Morgan Irons, Andrew Nuquist, Steve Bailey, Heather Bailey
2. Trails and shelters report – Morgan
There were two meetings with other trails leaders organized by Lorne and Morgan. We hope to have a hands-on workshop at the GMC annual meeting June 11. Two new big hoes were purchased and Morgan is still looking for rakes.
Morgan scouted Bamforth Ridge. It’s in pretty good shape. Next work hike will divide into two groups, one for the lower part and one for upper. Water bar work may be needed. Morgan will scout Barnes Camp before the work hike to assess needs. There is a bible of Trail Maintenance by the AMC. Perhaps we should purchase more copies for possible trail workers. There is a training budget from which we could draw funds for books for trail workers.
3. Nomination of officers
All elected officers are willing to continue next year.
4. Content and deadlines for Trail Talk, and the future of the newsletter.
Deadline is May 15 for getting excursions listed in TT. We are always looking for volunteers to submit articles.
We need to find a replacement for Nancy. Morgan may be willing to do the layout on her computer, but lack of content is a problem.
Do we want to continue with print version? Not all sections have a printed newsletter. They vary in length. Could we have links to online articles?
A motion was passed to send out a stamped postcard to members asking if they wish to continue with a paper copy. This postcard will go out with the fall issue.
Both Steve and Morgan will contact Nancy to see how she publishes, prints and sends out the TT.
5. Communication out to the section about the annual meeting Members list. Every Tuesday or Wednesday Kevin sends out a list of upcoming hikes. Some people are having difficulty receiving these notices. John says 60% of the people open the messages. All appear to be received. We should continue to use the members list, attempt to get the members list out of trouble by writing directly to their email addresses. Steve will write to all 100 members on the list directly to their emails to determine if they are getting through and also to help them find messages in their spam folders. He will also tell them about the annual meeting.
Steve would like to announce the Annual Meeting on Front Porch Forum. The EC agreed with this.
Reports are needed for the annual meeting. Please send to Steve by May 3.
