Paddle on Waterbury Reservoir from Moscow
Trip Reports
Sun Aug 17 2025 Paddle on Waterbury Reservoir from Moscow by Phyllis Rubenstein
On Sunday, August 17, 2025, 4 of us paddled about 6 miles round trip from the Little River Canoe Access off the Cotton Brook Road in Moscow, south on the Waterbury Reservoir until we had a view of the Little River State Park Beach and Boat Launch, with the dam further to the west, and the Blush Hill Boat Launch to the east. We enjoyed our paddle and two swims at remote campsite 12, a favorite spot from past years. Two of us paddled lightweight Hornbeck solo canoes (15 and 18 pounds each!), one person paddled a two-person aluminum canoe, and another person paddled a sea kayak. We saw a belted kingfisher, a bald eagle, and a flock of Canada geese, as well as purple pickerelweed and other flowers. Despite the weather forecast for afternoon rain, the Reservoir was busy with both motorized and non-motorized boaters, as well as people camping at the remote campsites. We were delighted that the rain showers held off until after we had returned to the boat access and loaded the boats on our cars.
