Sugar on snow party at the Morse’s Sugar House on the Country Road in Montpelier

At the Morse’s Sugar House on the County Road we opened the activities of the newly organized Montpelier Section of the Green Mountain Club of Vermont, with a social in the form of a SUGAR-ON-SNOW party. This get-together got together the people who were interested in out-of-door activities; as hikes, snow-shoes and ski activities, and camping trips.

The day itself was very warm for the season,, and clear. The sap was still running and so the ‘boiling down’ process was in full process. Along with the syrup and snow there were dill pickles, raised doughnuts, and hot coffee.

Those present were: Mr. & Mrs. Mark McCorison and three children – Mark Jr., Judith and Andrew; Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Cady and three children – John,Nancy and Norma; Mr. & Mrs. Philip Corker; Mr. & Mrs. Harlan Farnsworth; Phyllis Murphy; Doris Newton; Louise Hutchinson; Dr. & Mrs. Maynard Bryant and two daughters – Marlene and Carolyn; Frances Holmes; Mr. Henry Holmes; Ellen Hebblethwaite; Mildred Howes; Miriam Fitts; Dot McKenna.

Most everyone drove up from Montpelier in cars, altho a few enjoyed the walk in the warmly brisk Spring air.
