Saturday August 10 2019 Mt. Ascutney Hike by Nancy Schulz

A cool, breezy day was a welcome treat for this summer hike up Mt. Ascutney. The route involved an ascent via the Futures Trail and a descent via the Windsor Trail with a road walk back to the car. Highlights of the trip included the views from Bare Rock vista, a hang gliding platform, the observation tower, and Brownsville Rock. Other points of interest were the Steam Donkey, Castle Rock, and Gerry's Falls. Ascutney is a diverse and interesting mountain featuring four trails to the summit, an auto road, a state park, a mountain biking trail, multiple waterfalls, and an old quarry. Total distance (including the road walk) was approx. 9 miles. Multiple visits are needed to explore and appreciate all this mountain has to offer.
