Saturday September 29 2018 Taconic Mountain Ramble State Park by Nancy SchulzSix GMC members in two cars made the 1-3/4 hour drive to Hubbardton on a beautiful fall Saturday to explore the latest addition to the Vermont state park network. We checked out the trails, meadows, vistas, and waterfalls of Taconic Mountain Ramble State Park. After a visit to the Japanese Garden, we climbed via various trails to the height of land (Mt. Zion) where we had a stunning, expansive view as we ate lunch. Then, we descended and headed to the other side of the park where we followed a loop trail that overlooks four waterfalls. We finished the day with a visit to the site of the Hubbardton Battlefield, the only Revolutionary War battlefield in Vermont. We learned some interesting history from the interior exhibits, walked the trail on the property and talked to the knowledgeable staffer on site. Everyone agreed the long drive was well worth it!
