Trip Reports

Saturday March 25, 2017 Mt Elmore snowshoe by Steve and Heather Bailey

Three of us decided on short notice to hike Mt Elmore after a snowfall. In Montpelier 2-3" of snow was already melting when we headed north. At the Elmore parking lot there were 3 to 4 inches of more or less dry snow. At the top, there were over 8 inches of fluffy dry powder. We went up the fire tower trail and down the ridge trail. We were lucky to meet up with Frank Davis, a Wolcott resident and long-time GMC member. He hikes the trail quite often and broke trail for us, which was good because in some places the blazes are not very clear and previous tracks were almost completely snowed over.
