Saturday December 12, 2015 Dumpling Hill circumnavigation by John Buddington and Kathy GohlTen walkers met at the Rumney School in Middlesex and did a 6-mile loop on town highways and woods roads.
The day was unusually pleasant for December. The temperatures were in the high 40s and weather was mostly cloudy. The roads had been quite muddy for the past week due to a freeze-and-thaw cycle more typical of March. Fortuitously the Town of Middlesex had graded a particularly gooey section of road and the temperature had not dropped below freezing Friday night. There was no snow on the ground.
We met at 12:30 and headed downhill to Shady Rill then climbed up Wood Road into the town of Worcester. After passing Downs Road, we headed around the north and west of Dumpling Hill. The Worcester Rangers have graded their trail so that the uphill hike, though steep, was easily negotiable. The downhill section was likewise steep.
We came to Macy Road and turned left toward West Hill Road and arrived back at the Rumney School by 3:45.
Reidun came prepared with a shopping bag which we filled with beer cans discarded along the road.
The leaders appreciated that all participants notified them of their intention to come (and there were zero no-shows). Also, everyone respected GMC punctuality traditions by arriving before the announced meeting time.
