Trip Reports

Sunday August 16, 2015 East Montpelier Trail by Ken Hertz

East Montpelier Trails, Inc. maintains trails in East Montpelier and publishes a map (PDF file, about 2 MB) showing them. The map does not show other trails in the area. Our expert guide, Kimberly Pierce, lives in the area and runs those trails. She guided us along a g=few of them, starting in Adamant village. We ended up on Dodge Road, where we had spotted a car for the return trip.

The weather was gorgeous, not nearly as hot as I had feared. The seven of us marched right along, completing the six mile hike in about 2 1/2 hours. We did stop to observe various mushrooms and some (broken, presumably hatched) turkey eggs. There had been several recent reports of bear sightings in the area, but we did not encounter any.

There are great views eastward of the mountains at Plainfield in the L R Jones and Groton state forests.

How did people find out about the hike? web calendar, Trail Talk, Front Porch Forum, The Bridge, GMC Flyer, and personal communication.
