Friday June 05, 2015 Long Trail Divisions 1 and 2 by Phyllis Rubenstien

Tree, Journey, BB and Groovy Ruby backpacked almost 41 miles on the Long Trail from the Southern Terminus in North Adams, MA, to Kelly Stand Road (Divisions 1 and 2) from Friday to Monday, June 5-8, 2015. We had mostly clear weather except for early morning rain on Saturday and a brief mid-morning shower on Monday. The temperature was quite pleasant for hiking and sleeping, even Sunday when we woke up to temperatures in the upper 30's. We covered a variety of woods, wetlands and summits. We enjoyed the 360 degree view from the Glastonbury Mountain Fire Tower. We saw wild flowers galore, including some edible plants. We saw animals, birds, and frogs and signs of moose. Some of us saw a porcupine climb up a tree.. We met Appalachian Trail thru-hikers heading north, as well as section hikers and day hikers. We enjoyed the trail and the many challenges it presented.
