Green River Reservoir paddling trip
The launch area at Green River Reservoir is a busy place on a beautiful weekend. Paddlers come and go all day. As we were putting in, we were happy to run into some of our local YAK friends who were returning from a camping trip. We-eleven paddlers in eight boats--were just out for the day. Once on the water, we paddled clockwise around the reservoir, taking our time and enjoying the shoreline in the September sunshine. Loons occasionally swam quite close to us. They seem comfortable with quiet, non-motorized boat traffic. Lucky for us, the Picnic Island was deserted, so we stopped there for lunch. After the break all but I paddled around Heron Cove; I took the opportunity to go for a refreshing swim. We were back at the launch area by mid-afternoon. A note for next seasons trip leaders: this state park charges a group fee, in addition to the individual charge.
