Cotton Brook Loop
Irene is coming! All media are talking about Hurricane Irene, due up here (or maybe not) starting tonight. But today is a good day to be out in the woods.
Four of us (Bob, Michael, Denise and Ken) left MHS at 9 and reached the trailhead at 9:30, where we met Walt and 14 year old Bert. Unfortunately, Bert was not up to a long walk, so Walt took him back home. Fourteen is pretty old for any dog.
The remaining four walked up Cotton Brook Road as described in GMC's new Day Hikers Guide to Vermont, 6th ed. But we did the loop clockwise, yielding a steeper climb. (I don't care for steep descents.)
Denise is not yet a GMC member; she just moved up to Vermont from Connecticut. She and Michael talked about work and about housing.
On the way out, we met Maisie Howard (GMC Director of Development) and her husband Travis, both wearing GMC logos. Michael and Maisie talked (GMC) business for a few minutes.
Time on trail: 4 1/2 hours, including stops.
