Winooski River paddle
The six of us who paddled down the Winooski to the mouth of the river, were not much impressed with the put-in below the bridge in Winooski. It was steep and littered, and we had to carry the boats and the gear quite a distance. But things looked up after we started paddling. The day was sunny and warm with little traffic on the water. We saw turtles, great blue herons, and other water birds. You wouldn't know that you were close to Vermont's largest city. We stopped at Ethan Allen's homestead for lunch and a stretch and took out mid-afternoon.
