Hike on Elephant's Head Trail
Geri, Maja, Robert and I climbed up the Elephant's Head Trail, actually a segment of the Long Trail, on a beautiful summer's day. The first obstacle was the Notch Brook; the water was just a little higher than normal. In fact, there was just a little more water than usual all along the trail. Robert, the silent snipper, did a great job of keeping the brush back. We went down the spur trail to the overlook on the top of the cliff for a frightening peak at the road below. I had expected to find a sign warning of nesting falcons, but there was none. At Sterling Pond we managed to snag a prime lunch spot atop a large boulder. Descending by Sterling Pond Trail we saw evidence of Spring washouts.
