Winter Romp in East Montpelier Town Forest

An early spring drizzle stopped as we tumbled out of our cars in the peaceful forest in search of animals. We peered through the trees and howled for our forest friends, but the only animals we encountered were in the names of the paths we traveled... deer, coyote, and fox. We carefully stepped so we wouldn't sink into post holes and snacked on pear scones and hot chocolate along the way as we walked past the tips of small pine trees peeking through the crust of snow. Finally, as we retraced the frost-heaved roads toward Montpelier, we stopped in for our first sugar-on-snow of the season.
