YAC Hike to Mallory Brook, East Montpelier Trails

Overcast skies and a few drops of early rain didn't slow us down for YAC's first fall ramble. Ten families (29 people) met at the foot of Johnson Road in East Montpelier. We skipped down the dirt track, sampled tart apples in the field, and appreciated the rock- and bridgework that's been done as we sloped downhill. At the brook, we shared snacks, scrambled on the rocks, and learned that rubber boots are the perfect thing to keep your feet dry on an autumn YAC outing -- especially if you jump in Mallory Brook. Wandering on we say colored leaves, rocks that look like castles, and baby trees growing out of dead trees. In time we turned ourselves around, walked back to the parking lot, and said our farewells to many new YAC friends.
