Hike to Bear Hollow Shelter

We were fortunate to have chosen the one date with sunshine during a succession of cold, wet, and windy days. Ten hikers enjoyed the opportunity to walk south on the Long Trail from Route 15 to Bear Hollow Shelter on old roads and paths through the partially denuded forest. Leaves remaining were mostly yellow or copper colored, with only an occasional red accent. Although the pathway was always benign, the continuous upgrade until close to the shelter wore a bit thin by its relentlessness. Sunshine on the picnic table in front of sturdy and attractive Bear Hollow Shelter kept us warm during lunch on this pleasantly cool day. We agreed that Vermont was unequaled as a place to be in the Fall.
