Mount Isolation-White Mountains, NH 48-4K series
Well, it was not meant to be. The late winter snow that made for great winter snow shoeing is still there. Isolation requires 5 stream crossing that were nearly impossible, due to the snow melt, making this long attempted 14.6 mile hike a bushwhack. We arrived at the point where we would have to make the one necessary crossing. There we met 2 groups of hikers who told us that the remaining 2 miles of the trip would be post holing through waist high snow. It was already 2:30 PM, so for safety we had to turn around. A long 10 mile hike with 200 miles of driving and no summit was certainly disappointing. Next week's hike in the Wildcats will require snow shoes. Can you believe it? Snow shoeing in June!
