Berlin Pond Walk
9 Children ages 15 months - 5 years and 7 adults participated in this outing. We parked at the parking lot next to Berlin Pond right by the interstate and walked the dirt road for about 45 minutes, stopped in a clearing opposite the Irish Hill trailhead for snack, and then walked back to the parking lot. Total trip time was just under 2 hours.
Even though this was a road walk and not a hike, many of the parents commented that they enjoyed it because they felt like they could chat with one another because they were not on a narrow trail. Traffic was a bit of a concern and keeping the kids on the side of the road was an ongoing task.
This was the first YAC outing for several participants and several people were returning YACers. I passed out several Adventure Journals and stamped them for the kids.
We saw tons of red winged blackbirds, a number of ducks, crows, plants and trees with signs of budding out, etc.
One parent asked if other sections of the GMC plan to start a YAC.
Overall, a great day had by all.
