Mts. Osceola and East Osceola, White Mountain 48-4K Series

At the suggestion of Paul D from the Burlington Section, we did this trip in reverse of our original plan of going up Greeley Ponds to the Osceola trail which is a shorter but much steeper trip to the summits of Osceola and East Osceola. The day was clear and cool with some ice buildups on the rocks which required some careful stepping. We arrived at the Mount Osceola trailhead off Tripoli Road at around 8:20 AM. The reverse trip added .8 of an additional mile to the trip but was actually much faster due to the higher elevation at this trailhead. The views from Mount Osceola were outstanding and numerous. Washington was completely snow covered and very visible off to the East. The trip in between summits was fun with some good rock scrambling opportunities for the "rock heads" in the steep chimney shoots. The summit of East Osceola, contrary to its sister peak, was unceremonious and purely for the peak baggers. It is a pile of rocks in the woods. We made excellent time and were down at approximately 2:30.

Short chimney between Osceola and East Osceola provides a little scrambling.

Paul and Paul check maps and gadgets, but we really knew where we were. Mount Washington in the background.
