Spruce Mountain in Plainfield

The weather gods smiled on us this day, one of the few rain-free days of early August. The four of us drove from the MHS parking lot to Plainfield and then out East Hill Road to Spruce Mountain Road; we were the second car in the parking lot there. We ambled up the trail and were passed by a number of children who were(as we discovered at the summit) celebrating a birthday by making this very popular climb. We enjoyed lunch at the summit, then climbed the fire tower for the usual spectacular views. We met many other groups, large and small, many with friendly dogs, as we descended the mountain. Spruce Mountain is definitely a good family outing. When we returned to our car, the parking lots contained more than a dozen cars.

The ladies vanished behind a cleft in the rock (but reappeared a few feet down the trail.)
